It’s almost time for the 5th annual Team Breast Friend 5K Rack Run, which will be held Oct. 6 at the Terry Trueblood Recreation Area in Iowa City. The race supports local breast cancer patients and their families, with all proceeds going to provide mammograms, diagnostic treatments, and on-going support. It’s truly an inspiring event, but do you know how the Rack Run got started?
Five years ago, Team Breast Friends member Jacki Perez, who’s a dedicated runner, created the blueprint for an annual 5k run. Another member, Molly Brown, who is a breast cancer survivor, came up with the Rack Run name. Yeah, we’re a pretty talented bunch.
Since the inaugural race in 2015, support for the Rack Run has expanded beyond TBF members and their families to local high school athletes, student volunteers, and other community members who devote their time and money to make the event successful. Team Breast Friends is excited for the Rack Run’s bright future as more of the Corridor community becomes aware of the event and the great support it provides to local breast cancer patients and their loved ones.
